Surprise!!
Hahaha, I said i will blog and yes, I WILL BLOG!! This is a moment of history since i've never blogged in my life. Took me a bit to figure out how this thing works. I'm finally keeping to my words (chuckle).
To those who're wondering who is this, I'm one of the uh-um... "older" Simplians who left to study abroad. I'm still very much a Simplian at heart. I read some of your entries and i think it's really cool. I like the pictures where you guys were holding a blown-up portrait of yourselves.
I know i've been missing in action all the way since the start of the year. It has been a good semester here in UQ. I've already finished half my stay in Brisbane. One more year to go! Time really really flies, i can't emphasize that enough. I'm into my 3rd week of a new sem. I've been taking spoken mandarin as my electives. Very interesting compared to the dry Accounting subjects. Last sem, i did a presentation on durians and actually brought one to class. Well, my classmates are all ABCs and most of them haven't seen a durian! I was tempted to open it in class but thought i had better spare them the smell. My lecturer this sem is an Aussie lady. Quite embarassing right, an angmoh teaching a chinese, chinese.
Winter break last month - Wan Phing has already spelled out what we did in Sydney (Thanks again Phing for graciously housing me the 12 whole days). Hillsong Conference was awesome! I caught so so much. I guess what i really took back was a new perspective on evangelism, mainly from Bill Hybel's session. Always thought evangelism is so difficult. How do you be relevant to people today while sharing? I realise it's not about pushing the whole gospel to people and say "yes, i've done my job". But it comes from the simple everyday things, the building of relationships with housemates, neighbours, classmates and those around us. And when the Holy Spirit prompts and God allows divine opportunities, we share.
Am currently reading Bill Hybel's book "Just Walk Across the Room" (it's really good). He says that God has a certain role for each of us to play. Your role, may be to bring this person from -10 to a -7. Another person may come along to move that number to a -2. And one fine day at the right moment, even a Christian stranger can lead this person to Christ. The little deeds and words we say count! The point is, we need to learn to co-operate with the Holy Spirit.
I find that so encouraging to know that the little seeds we sow are not wasted!
It has indeed been interesting and exciting watching God work around me, and of course so very challenging. Haha, God is really creative and funny sometimes isn't He?
Do keep me in prayer, i definitely need lots of it!
All you guys who are gearing for E06, catch everything that God wants you to ya. I look forward to your testimonies! Take care.
