Marvellous Monday

No Monday blues... I woke up to the excitement of embarking on my first assignment of my holiday: to mix and master 7 songs of an ICOM (International College Of Music) Arranging major student's final project albeit it was a last minute affair. It was tough as I was only told to go to her house and start mixing and mastering on Monday, and the submission date was on Wednesday. Needless to say, the mixing sessions were rather long and tiring - coz I was rushing for someone else's assignment. I forgot to mention, at ICOM, an Arranging major student is allowed to collaborate with a lyricist and a Music Production major for his/her final project.

I sat in front of the computer screen for 35 hours for 2 days... not good. Knowing that I made the mistake of producing an unbalanced mix as a direct result of rushing when mixing the Storm In A Teacup CD last year, I told her that I needed at least 1 week to complete 7 songs - to perfection. In the end, it turned out that I was only given 2 days. LOL. On top of that, I had to familiarise myself with 2 audio softwares that I've never used before in my life.

On Wednesday evening, I got home and listened to the tracks once more... everything turned out to be good EXCPET there was too much bass! Shucks! So, I would consider that I've failed in my assignment. Ah, the perils of not having accurate-sounding speakers and an acoustically treated room. >.< Actually, I wasn't given enough time to evaluate the songs on different playback systems lah... Gee. Moreover, it was someone's final project. Double shucks!

Felix :O)
