Yo!
Attended Couz night and it was wacky as well as informational. Whoever thought of integrating the Black Eyed Peas so seamlessly during praise and worship? It was fantastic and I see here that the church could be as hip as the hottest club out there! My only concern at the time was how a 60-70 year old LT (I hope my estimates are correct) could jive to the hip-hop flava. Strangely, I felt obliged to treat him as my guest as if I were the host. I suppose we all were!
The talk only lasted about an hour. A lot of time was spent waiting on people who never came (must be the bad weather). I've never been asked to describe the Trinity owing perhaps to my relatively fresh faith. I can't say I'll be able to offer a good explanation in the future either. What I am fairly clear with is that one cannot begin to understand the concept of the Trinity without an open mind.
I had to think of the Trinitarian description--God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit as three persons but ONE being--as being an entirely new species not common in our world. It's similar to a man (or woman if you prefer) that has one body and three heads. The heads speak to one another just like how the Son spoke to the Father. This image however, only points to a 'physical' way of understanding.
LT described the Trinity mostly in a relational sense. It's about relationships: husband and wife; church and its people; brothers and sisters; mothers and daughter-in-laws? The focus is not on the physical atoms that bind the three heads to the neck; it's the interaction between the three heads that explains it. You will never figure out how my mom and I can ever be joined to the same neck but you could understand how we are joined by our emotional bond ...
Sounds like I'm trying to lecture. Hey, I'm just shedding some light into how a newbie like me makes sense of the Trinity. I've only just begun to have interest in these farnie farnie stuff. Will go tmr morning to hear the rest. Who's coming? =)
